Make It Feel Fresh | Home

February 26, 2019

This week in the Portman house the project is painting- inside and out!

It can be a bit of a schlep having people around all the time and being stuck at home, but it's also a perfect opportunity.

When you need to move all your things (these are mostly my things like plants, crystals, photos, and more crystals) from one room to the next, you start to wonder if you still need all of it.

Probably not...

Although I didn't get stuck into the addictive (of what I hear) Marie Kondo
series on Netflix, I've heard the "does this spark joy" term enough times for it to have stuck.

So, as I'm stuck at home and the opportunity has presented itself I think I'll do some freshening up of our belongings.

I'll say my inspiration is also coming from being pregnant and nesting a bit- I hope this goes well!

Why freshen up your house?

*Clear space, clear mind.

I don't think we all need to live the minimalist style- it's a personal taste. I do however think we need to choose each thing in our space with intention. I'll never not have crystals in my room, but if I'm being honest, many of them have just been mindlessly put there when there's nowhere else to go.

So perhaps when we design our space and place everything with real intention, it will be a clear space for us, and we will feel a clear mind when being there.

*Release

We hold onto so many things throughout our life, often from a place of lack or fear, rather than a true sense of love for it.

“But when we really delve into the reasons for why we can’t let something go, there are only two: an attachment to the past or a fear for the future.”
― Marie Kondo, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing

When we release, we renew.

*Gratitude

Too often we feel like we just don't have enough, when really, we probably have too
much. Taking the time to go through your belongings can create a deep gratitude for all that you have, all your memories, all the possibilities of what life may still bring you.

By connecting to how abundant our lives actually are, we can find peace in the gratitude.

When last did you clear out some of the spaces in your home?

Is this a practice you enjoy or loathe?

I'll let you know how my experience went after this week ;-)

Love always,

Gente

xx
